stuff worth sharing
Extraordinary women of strength, Pink Floyd the pink flamingo, New Orleans, and other stuff worth sharing
In Wednesday’s letter, I shared with you the stress I’d felt the last couple of months, and asked for your stories of overcoming something in your own life. Thank you to everyone who replied to that email or left messages in the Facebook group. I did my best to answer everyone who messaged me. If you didn’t hear from me, check your junk folder. You truly gave me strength with your stories. Thank you.
Now that tax season is over, I’m grateful for time to read each morning before I turn to my own manuscript. (Currently, I’m writing the next Paynes Creek novel, as well as occasional offerings to this Substack. Be sure to subscribe!)
As I read, I find myself wanting to share what I read with you, this awesome community, in hopes that you might wish to discuss the shared items further. Here are five things I wish to share with you this week. Be sure to hit reply or comment below the post if anything resonates with you.
This week I stumbled across the Substack: The Isolation Journals with Suleika Jaouad. And this has led me to download her memoir, Between Two Kingdoms: A Memoir of a Life Interrupted. I can’t wait to start this book as I travel this month. Suleika is an inspiration and source of strength. If you go down the rabbit hole like I did and read about and listen to her story, you will find an extraordinary woman. I believe that the universe was talking to me when I stumbled across Suleika’s story. This was not an accident.
Pink Floyd, the fugitive from the Kansas Zoo, popped up in Texas after being on the run for more than 17 years. “"Looks like Pink Floyd has returned from the 'dark side the of moon'! Spotted at Rhodes Point in Cox Bay near Port Lavaca by David Foreman on March 10," Coastal Fisheries - Texas Parks and Wildlife wrote alongside video of the fugitive flamingo living its best life. "Pink Floyd is a local Texas flamingo that escaped a Kansas zoo in 2005 and has been seen on the Texas coast for several years."" I, for one, hope Pink Floyd lives a long life of freedom from captivity.
The 9 Biggest Myths About Nonfiction Trade Publishing, Debunked. If you’re interested at all about the process of publishing a book, you’ll want to read this list. I promise: Publishing a book is not how Carrie Bradshaw from Sex in the City portrays it.
It’s Later Than You Think. Y’all know if you’ve been reading me in recent weeks that I’m obsessed with time and making better decisions about what I do with my limited amount. Sahil Bloom from The Curiosity Chronicle gives you kind of a gut punch with a simple calculation that changed his life and prompted he and his wife to move their family closer to their parents. I’m dying to know what you guys think about this one.
I’m headed to New Orleans for a visit. I’ve been to the Big Easy twice before, so I’m not a New Orleans virgin, but if you know of any off the beaten path types of things I must do, definitely hit reply or comment below this post. Please tell me what I must do, see, or eat while I’m there. I did find this post from Practical Wanderlust that I’m working my way through. I definitely think I want to walk the garden district. My husband and I love walking the cities we visit.
