We’re mixing things up a bit this week. I’ve been writing more lately. Hooray, right? Writing more is what a writer should be doing. (This includes the novel I’m releasing in September.)
In light of this very good news, I thought that instead of writing here on Substack and having every little thing I write going out to your inbox where, if you’re anything like me, you’ve been receiving way too much information, that I would, instead, send you a curated list of things I’ve written as well as links to things I’ve been reading, listening to, or watching.
Great idea, right?
I found The Worrier’s Guide to the End of the World, the book I’m currently reading, at a Little Free Library near the Getaway House my husband and I escaped to a couple of weeks ago. I had forgotten how much I loved Torre DeRoche’s writing until I began reading about her pilgrimage through Italy (and eventually India). Her first travel memoir, Love with a Chance of Drowning, was pretty amazing, as well.
I spent part of this week contemplating deleting an entire character from Danger is in the Shadows. Just contemplating letting go of this character that I actually kind of liked, even though he was kind of a terrible person, helped me get unstuck in the writing process. Sometimes, ya just gotta sit down and work through some shit in order to move forward. It worked.
I’m really hoping it rains for a couple of hours tomorrow so that I can start watching And Just Like That. I don’t really need it to rain, but our grass does.
In case you didn’t know, I’m obsessed with walking places. I stumbled upon this quote about walking being a religion. I’m here for it.
Ear candy (Is that a thing? Or is candy just for eyes?): If you’re looking for a podcast that will make you laugh, cringe at humanity, and nod in agreement (or be offended, depending on what kind of person you are), then you should listen to I’ve Had It. You must be capable of handling a bit of really terrible language. Also, you have to be someone who can laugh at themselves as well as forgive others. You won’t be in full agreement with everything said on this podcast. That is kind of the point of this podcast. Also, it’s a pretty popular podcast, so I completely understand if you’re already in love with these ladies. My husband and I think they’re funny as hell.
