I've been wanting to do the Camino for a while now. I know someone here in town that has done it at least twice and I'm planning to contact her soon and talk more about it. I did get the book that you mentioned in your last post and plan to read it on my upcoming vacation. I like the idea of the French route but had considered the Portuguese route since it's not as long. I think you've done more investigating than I have at this point!

Yes, I went a little insane in my investigation of it this time. This is the second time I've gone down this rabbit hole. I'll try to list a bunch of my resources in an upcoming post in order to save them all in one place, and possibly help others like you if you're looking for inspiration or information. Keep me posted on if you decide to go for it. Everyone I've listened to offers the same advice, "If you're thinking about going, just go!"

That would be great to see your resources. I'll definitely let you know. I'm thinking it will be at least 2 years as I already have a big trip next summer. But I'd really like to make it happen!

I don't think I'd ever want to do a hike alone. But I have always wanted to do something like that. I used to love camping and hiking back in the day. My health has decided otherwise but I think I'd still do one if the opportunity presented itself. Where does one stay at night during these hikes? Camping? Hotels? I'm curious about that one. Maybe one day I can do a smaller one with my son. I've been to Spain once, at a layover on the way to our deployment to Kuwait. Wish I could have stayed much longer and it's a place I'd love to return to.

One of the reasons I'm so excited to do the Camino is because there are lots of resources along the way. You're basically walking from town to town and staying in alberques (also known as hostels) and hotels. So no camping outside, though I'm sure some do. Also, a lot of people carrying everything they need on their backs, but some of the Camino routes offer luggage transfer between towns so that you don't have to carry everything as you walk.

I was wondering the same thing! Now for sure you should go! They have made it easier to travel with less baggage!

For sure. It's a nominal fee to not have to carry everything. Some people think you're cheating, but I don't need that heavy baggage.

Not cheating at all! Really helps those of us who need that kind of service so it's nice that's offered and they're looking out for others.

We love to hike also! In recent months, I’ve been having issues with my knees so maybe not a 490 mile hike, but one that hits all the points you made, would be dream come true! I do use hiking poles. It gives me the stability I need for uneven terrain and I’m a bit clumsy! 😂

Keep dreaming and doing those adventures, we never know when it will be our last!! “Live long and prosper!” And I love living vicariously through your photos!!

Thanks for mentioning the hiking poles. I'm seriously considering trying out a pair. I don't have knee issues, but I am having plantar fasciitis recently. I'm working on that. :-/

They are definitely a help! Ouch on the plantar fasciitis!! I hope that feels better soon! 💕

Me too! I'm doing everything the doctor told me to do, including wearing this annoying splint at night.

I had it once for 9 months and went to the chiropractor. He said this is going to hurt and he pressed down on the heel and massaged it. It hurt like hell but he got better!!! Sooooo, you may try the chiropractor next. Good luck!!
